Whole House Water Filtration System

The average American consumes up to 40 gallons of tap water per year, yet most people don’t consider what is in that tap water. They ignore or are unaware of issues like pH imbalance, hard water, excess salinity, bacteria, arsenic and nitrate levels. The list of potential problems in tap water is long but most homeowners aren’t even aware. After all, most contaminants are colorless, odorless, and generally tasteless.

That’s why it’s so important to have the water in your home properly treated and filtered before it ever reaches your tap. Proper whole house water filtration will not only remove the most common contaminants in tap water; it will properly balance your drinking water so it provides the hydrating benefits of clean water without any potential contaminants.

For all of these reasons, it is vital that you call someone who can provide effective water testing and installation of whole house water filtration systems. Standard Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning has worked closely with homeowners and businesses throughout the Manhattan, KS area for many years to provide water testing services that pinpoint the exact root of the problem. Our technicians are experienced at installing a full range of water cleaning and treatment products. Types of Water Treatment

While straight water filtration is effective when it comes to removing the most common contaminants and sediment from water, it’s not always enough. For this reason, there are multiple types of water treatment that go into an effective whole house system. These include the following:

  • Filtration – A water filter is usually comprised of a charcoal base to filter out the most common contaminants in water like excess minerals, debris and some chemicals. Because charcoal naturally absorbs chemicals and is porous to water, it works quite well for quick filtration. These devices come in table top and under–sink models and are often included as part of a whole house system.
  • Softening – Hard water is not necessarily dangerous to your health, but it can severely damage your fixtures and shorten the life of pipes, appliances, and fixtures – plus it doesn’t always taste that great. Softeners use sodium to separate the metals from water and then filter them out.
  • Reverse Osmosis – Once water has been softened, however, there is often excess salinity that can be dangerous to drink. Reverse osmosis systems force that water through a porous filter that removes contaminants down to a molecular level. This is an essential part of any full sized whole house filtration system.
  • Additional Purification – It is rare, but some homes have high levels of arsenic, nitrates, nitrites and other heavy metal and chemical contaminants. Special filters are needed to remove these impurities from your drinking water and cause health issues.

The right water treatment system will target only the things in your drinking water that are a risk to your family and home. That’s why proper testing is so important in the process, because it allows you to determine what potential threats are present in your home. Call Standard Plumbing today if you need to have your water tested. Our technicians will visit your Manhattan, Kansas metropolitan area home, analyze your drinking water, and create a plan to remove the contaminants that are most likely to cause you problems.
